History of the Abbey of La Roë

he history of La Roë started in the XIth century with the arrival of Robert d'Arbrissel in the forest of Craon.
A community was created with Robert d'Arbrissel at the helm. The Abbey grew very quickly. It became the most important religious establishment of the region. More than sixty priories were under the Abbey's authority in Brittany, Anjou and Maine. The Abbey welcomed Louis the XIth in 1472.
