BJECTIVES
: cultural and touristic linked to La Roë and its region. The Association organises guided visits of the Abbey, exhibitions, and concerts. It also co-ordinates the village twinning activities between La Roë and the village of Bradley near Stafford in England.
ACKGROUND
: a
CULTURAL CENTRE
was planned in 1998. Despite having widespread support and the grants being available, the village has not yet started the projects. Exhibitions and courses still take place despite the lack of basic amenities such as electricity (!). A
SCRIPTORIUM
was started in may 2003. Calligraphy and
illumination
courses take place between May and September ( see
programme 2006
). A cricket club was also started in 2004. Matches are organised every two weeks, normally on Sundays from May to the end of September.
ROJECTS
A
PATCHWORK GALLERY
will open on 12th May 2007 with an exhibition showing an 1870 "religious" quilt «
Grandmother's garden
» (found in the Abbey Church), alongside a copy of this quilt made by six mayennaises quilters. We have also received several patchworks from everywhere in France and abroad and we are still appealing to quilters of all nationalities.
